Album Review
Jay Brannan dives into his iPod collection with In Living Cover, a collection of cover songs and original material. The two original tunes featured here — "Beautifully" and "Drowning" — take their cues from the Lilith Fair school of songwriting, mixing bookish lyrics with bursts of acoustic guitar. The effect is reinforced by Brannan's voice, a somewhat androgynous tenor whose range and tone serve him well on the covers, too. Joni Mitchell, Ani DiFranco, and the Cranberries all serve as source material for Brannan's six cover songs, and he pays tribute to those artists with soft, acoustic renditions of their hits. When he ditches the acoustic guitar and performs DiFranco's "Both Hands" with an a cappella arrangement, the result is striking, due in no small part to his imaginative reinterpretation of the original.

simply amazing.
by blacklithiumGreat album. Jay Brannan is a mastermind, the tracks are all great in their own way. My favorites are Beautifully (such insanely good lyrics!), Zombie, Both Hands, and The Freshmen.
I'd totaly recommend buying this, I didn't regret it at all and I'm sure you won't either.
The Best
by The Wick...This is real music... Jay recorded this album in his friend's (Drew Brody) bedroom in Brooklyn. It's not doctored up, it's just simply amazing! Jay brings his own artistry to these incredible songs and mixes excellent musical ability with a voice to match. And talk about a self made musician- The only marketing he has is his fans, which is a true testament to beauty, skill, and passion he pours into his music. Every single song on this album is more than good, it's the best- but If I had to pic, his cover of Zombie and Both Hands will touch your soul!
